Quan els déus van fugir del tità Tifó, molts van adoptar formes animals. Ares i Afrodita ho van fer en forma de peixos i van ser pescats per un pescador. Altres fonts diuen que van ser els maleïts Cadmo i Harmonía els que van ser pescats.
